Omena

Omena refers to a specific type of small fish known as the "silver cyprinid" or "Lake Victoria sardine." These tiny fish are found in Lake Victoria, which is shared by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Omena is a popular food item in Kenya, especially in the western region around the lake.

Fry onions till translucent-ish.

Add your crushed garlic and corriander stems.

Mix properly as you let them cook until onions are brown.

Add your grated tomatoes and let it cook to form a porridge-like paste.

Add your salt and Omena and mix everything properly.

Pour half a cup of milk, stir, cover and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

Uncover the pan and stir then add the other half cup of milk and stir.

Add your soy sauce and mix until the colour evens out.

Cover and let it simmer for another 3 minutes.

Turn off heat and immediately garnish using your chopped corriander leaves and stir everything up.

Serve with greens and ugali and ENJOY!
